Bill Michaelson 18:37, 9 August 2008 (EDT) update - this task didn't pan out. I am removing the project list web site.

The Task Force decided in September, 2007 to evaluate all of the the projects in Charles Carmalt's report and assign attributes by category. This shall assist us in determining which projects to focus our attention on, and through what authorities or other entities to pursue their completion. When we examined the report, it was immediately obvious that we could not get through the hundreds of items in the report with occasional meetings in any reasonable amount of time.

We decided to do this process online in order to share the work. This allows broad participation by people at times convenient to them, and it will allow those most knowledgeable with particular subjects to evaluate projects most appropriate for their expertise, while still sharing all info continuously. The database tool and the table underlying this report may be used for arbitrary extraction with SQL.

[edit] Report Organization

The projects are listed in a simple table, and this table is displayed in a particular format on this page. Participants should update the project entries by assigning values to the project attributes as described below.

If there is a need to add additional data that does not fit neatly into one of the table attributes, you can create or edit a wiki page for the project. The link to each project's (potential) wiki page is displayed as the ShortName. However it is desirable to keep as much data in the table as practicable, because this will enforce uniformity and thus aid programmatic processing. The table can be adapted (contact Bill Michaelson) if we decide any changes are worthwhile. Also, we can design some custom data extraction routines for particular purposes - a subject for ongoing discussion. The current report is unwieldy with more than 350 projects and will need to be supplemented by some other formats. For example, some grouping technique should be employed to restore some of the organization (comprehensibility) contained in the report from which this was derived. But it is now ready for collaborative online update. Please contribute your ideas and information by updating the table, this wiki, or the discussion page.

Also, we should coordinate this project with activity that lands on the page titled Bikeped Short-Term Objectives.

[edit] Project Table Fields and Attributes

The table of projects is organized in rows (or records), with one row per project, and columns (also referred to as fields). These fields and their meanings are described here.

To update a project, you must click on the update link for the project on the project list page (THE SITE HAS BEEN REMOVED). You will be presented with a separate web page containing an update form with the project data fields. You can edit these fields, and then use the Replace button to submit the changes into the database table. You will need to refresh/reload the project list web page to see your changes in the report.

The parenthesized values in the headings below are the table column (field) names. These names appear in the left column of the update form for project records. The right column contains field descriptions which enable you to determine what values are allowable for each field.
