[edit] Task Force Current Status
The last face-to-face meeting of the task force was August 28, 2007. We discussed the following matters:
- Steve Groeger wants to establish walking school buses. These are comprised of established pedestrian routes to local schools, and regularly scheduled walks at the start and/or end of school days which are led by responsible adults to guide the children in groups. Steve recommended maintaining statistics about the walks in order to generate a sense of accomplishment (regarding health or ecology) and thus encourage participation. More information is at Walking School Buses in Lawrence Township. General information about such programs can be found at on this page of Centers for Disease Control web site.
- Metta Cahill volunteered to chair a subcommittee for event organizing. Ralph Copleman agreed to participate on that committee.
- Pam Mount suggested that we identify a limited-length wish list of items, perhaps as a subset of the very comprehensive reports (Issues and Objectives) that Charlie Carmalt developed earlier. By narrowing the focus, we will be more likely to overcome inertia. The list of projects can be called the Bikeped Short-Term Objectives.
- Ralph Copleman asked that the committee consider establishing goals based on metrics which are derived from the Natural Step System conditions of sustainability.
- We discussed Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force Participation in Community Day.
- Metta Cahill suggested we develop a simple pledge for for people to use for declaring their commitment to walk or ride a bicycle more by some specific measure.
- Bill Michaelson encouraged task force members to access and update this wiki freely and without reservation, reminding all that any errors can be undone or easily corrected.
[edit] Update, September 2007
The Task Force met September 25 and discussed how we shall assign priorities to the project list that Charles Carmalt has compiled. The product of the discussion result in the wiki page at Bicycle and Pedestrian Project List where the reader can learn more about our plan.
